Press Release

Embassy of The Republic of South Sudan in Norway

August 6th, 2014  – The South Sudan Embassy in Norway would like to take this opportunity on behalf of the South Sudan Football team, the people and the government of the Republic of South Sudan to say “thank you”, to all the people who have worked tirelessly to make sure that South Sudan is represented in this year’s Norway Cup.
It is indeed an honour for the Embassy to have worked closely with Partnership for Change, Friends of Sudan-South Sudan Support Group, and to be the first ones in our history to bring a young and talented football team to Europe. Congratulations! Working as a team always makes things look easy, and this one was a very good example.
The Embassy wishes to thank and congratulate the Chairperson of Partnership for Change Ingrid Stange and Arve Danielsen for their dedication and friendship with the people of South Sudan. Arve, you have done a wonderful job, please continue doing it.
We also extend thanks to the Chair, Marit Hernaes of Sudan-South Sudan Support Group and the team at Lilleborg Church for their dedication in making sure that South Sudan Youth Sports Association (SSYSA) team gets to Norway and go back with good memories.
Also on the same token, the Embassy would like to extend special thanks to the Family of Lillian Olsson and her husband for organizing a boating trip for the team and the presents she presented to the team. We are very grateful and we look forward to more cooperation from all like minded individuals like her and her family in the future.
Although the team did not win a single match, we are very sure they did win our hearts and it is something that they as a team, and will cherish for the rest of their lives. The Embassy looks forward to working with all of you closely in the future and hopefully, we will be able to bring both male and female teams to next year’s Norway Cup. We also, wish to invite any feedback on what we have done right and wrong so that next year we will not repeat it again.
